The Senior Technical Designer is a full-time, on-site role based in New York, NY, responsible for leading the technical development of men's apparel from concept through production. This role oversees garment fittings, translates design intent into accurate technical packages, and ensures consistent fit standards across multiple brands and product categories. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing and refining patterns, analyzing garment construction, resolving fit and balance issues, and collaborating closely with design, product development, production, and sourcing teams.
The Senior Technical Designer will communicate with factories to clarify specifications, troubleshoot construction challenges, and maintain quality and compliance with brand standards. This role also mentors junior technical staff, supports process improvements, and contributes to timelines to help ensure on-time delivery.
- Strong Technical Design skills, including creating and maintaining tech packs and fit standards.
- Expertise in Garment Construction and Fitting, with the ability to diagnose and correct fit, balance, and quality issues.
- Proficiency in Pattern Making and interpreting patterns for woven and knit garments.
- Familiarity with Architecture concepts or structural design principles as they relate to form, fit, and construction is a plus.
- Several years of technical design experience in apparel, preferably in men's dress, casual, or sportswear.
- Advanced skills in relevant design and pattern software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, PLM systems, CAD/pattern software).
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with cross-functional teams and factory partners.
- High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple styles and deadlines.
- Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, Technical Design, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
