Senior Designer, Women’s Swimwear - Target

Position Overview

Seeking a talented and commercially focused Senior Designer to lead the design and development of women’s swimwear for Target. Reporting to the Vice President of Design, this role will translate consumer insights, market trends, and Target’s brand direction into compelling, innovative, and commercially successful collections.

The ideal candidate combines strong creative vision with deep technical knowledge of swimwear, an understanding of the mass retail customer, and the ability to manage multiple seasons and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

• Lead the design process for women’s swimwear collections, from seasonal concept and color direction through final product execution.
• Create trend-right, brand-appropriate assortments aligned with Target’s customer, pricing, and merchandising strategies.
• Research emerging trends in swimwear, fashion, color, print, materials, silhouettes, and consumer behavior.
• Develop seasonal concepts, mood boards, color palettes, print direction, sketches, and detailed technical packages.
• Partner closely with the Vice President of Design to establish and execute the creative vision for the business.
• Collaborate with merchandising, product development, technical design, sourcing, and sales teams throughout the product lifecycle.
• Work within established price points while maintaining design integrity, quality, fit, and commercial appeal.
• Review and approve fabrics, prints, color standards, trims, samples, strike-offs, and other development submissions.
• Participate in fittings and provide clear direction on silhouette, proportion, construction, and design details.
• Present seasonal concepts and product assortments to internal leadership and retail partners.
• Manage multiple collections, deadlines, and deliverables while responding quickly to feedback and changing business needs.
• Monitor competitive activity and identify opportunities for innovation and growth.
• Mentor and provide creative direction to junior members of the design team as needed.
• Ensure all products meet brand standards, retailer requirements, and calendar milestones.

• Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or a related discipline.
• 7+ years of apparel design experience, with significant experience in women’s swimwear preferred.
• Experience designing for Target or another major mass-market retailer strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of swimwear construction, fit, fabrication, print, color, and production processes.
• Demonstrated ability to create fashionable, commercially viable products for a broad consumer audience.
• Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop; experience with PLM systems preferred.
• Strong sketching, presentation, color, print, and technical design skills.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, organization, and time-management abilities.
• Ability to manage several projects and seasonal calendars simultaneously.
• Comfortable presenting creative concepts and responding constructively to feedback.

Salary $120,000-$150,000
