PROJECT ARCHITECT / ARCHITECTURAL DESIGNER

NYC Residential Conversions | 5-10 Years Experience

MZA/SFA is a mid-sized architectural and expediting firm in Midtown Manhattan seeking a talented Project Architect / Architectural Designer with 5-10 years of New York City experience and a strong background in residential conversions and alterations of existing buildings
.

This is a hands-on position for someone who wants more than a production role. You will have the opportunity to take ownership of projects, work directly with firm principals and clients, coordinate consultants, solve complex code and existing-building issues, and see projects through DOB approval and construction.

Our projects offer the opportunity to work on the challenges unique to New York City architecture: existing and historic buildings, residential conversions, changes in use and occupancy, zoning and code issues, and complex field conditions.

• Take an active role in projects from feasibility and design through construction
• Prepare and coordinate DOB filing and construction documents
• Analyze NYC zoning, Building Code, Multiple Dwelling Law, egress, accessibility, and life-safety requirements
• Work directly with clients, consultants, contractors, and agency representatives
• Coordinate structural, MEP, sprinkler, and other disciplines
• Participate in DOB filings, plan examinations, and objection resolution
• Conduct field surveys and construction site visits
• Resolve technical and field conditions as projects progress
• Manage multiple projects with increasing independence and responsibility

• 5-10 years of NYC architectural experience
• Hands-on experience with NYC residential conversions and existing-building alterations
• Experience with commercial/office-to-residential conversions is particularly desirable
• Professional degree in Architecture
• Strong knowledge of NYC Building Code, Zoning Resolution, Multiple Dwelling Law, and DOB procedures
• Strong technical, detailing, and construction-documentation skills
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to take initiative, solve problems, and manage projects independently

Experience with
historic or landmarked buildings, high-end residential, hospitality, or restaurant projects is a plus.
