MICHAEL K. CHEN ARCHITECTURE (MKCA) is a growing New York City-based architecture and design firm working at the intersection of architecture, interior design, and social practice. The office's projects encompasses a wide range of scales, from the design of furniture, to interiors, to new buildings, all of which are deeply informed by a commitment to craft, a playful sensibility, and a love of tinkering, of drawing, and of making.

Established in 2011, MKCA has been recognized with numerous international awards and press, and is sought after by a diverse and International clientele.

Current projects include ground up houses, large scale residential renovations, special projects for cultural and community oriented clients, and residential interiors throughout the United States and internationally. Our work straddles architecture, interior design, and industrial design, often in collaboration with artists and other designers, scientists, and engineers. We work as a tightly knit team operating from a studio environment in Manhattan, and all team members participate in the full spectrum of our services and activities.

In 2020, MKCA co-founded Design Advocates (D/A), a network of design firms collaborating on projects, research, and advocacy efforts that advance equality in the built environment.

We are seeking talented intermediate level architects and designers with 3-5 years of experience to join our team. This is a project manager position, working with the firm Principal and Associates to develop projects from concept to realization, collaborating with junior level staff, helping to direct design studies and production documents, sourcing furnishings and decorative elements, coordinating the work of consultants, and performing construction administration.

Intermediate architects engage the entire range of the office's creative workflow through sketching, digital modeling, rendering, drafting, BIM, physical model making, and prototyping, but also take an active role in charting the design direction of projects and the care for and communication with clients.

The ideal candidate is one with strong design skills and aesthetic sensibilities, strong interpersonal skills and values, and a creative point of view that is complementary to the practice. We are seeking someone with small firm experience, specifically with high end renovations and ground-up projects. The ideal candidate is someone with a passion for art, interiors, and furniture, but who is also technically facile and eager to learn.

The position offers many opportunities to contribute meaningfully to the work of the office and for professional advancement. Members of our team also regularly participate in Design Advocates projects and initiatives.

• A professional degree in Architecture is required. M.Arch, preferred.
• 3-5 years of experience, ideally in a small firm and with high end residential projects.
• Experience coordinating consultant work and/or in construction administration.
• Strong digital design skills. Fluency with Rhino and Revit are a must.
• Strong drawing and graphic skills including in AutoCAD and the Adobe Suite.
• An interest in interior design, furniture, contemporary art.
