The Department of Surgery

The Department of Surgery at SIUH is a dynamic and expanding service line, home to a robust team of over 25 dedicated surgeons across a broad array of subspecialties. Our faculty are experts in their fields, committed to clinical excellence, teaching, and mentorship. A cornerstone of our department is our highly regarded, ACGME-accredited General Surgery Residency Program. The Chair will play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of surgeons and fostering a supportive and rigorous educational environment and ensuring the continued excellence of our trainees.

The

Position

The Chair of Surgery will provide strategic leadership, fostering an environment of clinical distinction, academic growth, and operational efficiency.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and expanding clinical programs, driving innovation, and ensuring outstanding patient outcomes.
  • Recruiting, retaining, and developing a diverse and talented faculty.
  • Oversight and enhancement of the General Surgery Residency Program and medical student education.
  • Fostering a culture of inquiry, research, and scholarly activity.
  • Promoting collaborative relationships across specialties within SIUH and the broader Northwell Health system.
  • Strategic planning, resource management, and financial stewardship for the department.
Requirements & Ideal Experience
  • MD or DO degree.
  • Board Certification in Surgery.
  • Possess an outstanding record of clinical accomplishment, academic distinction, and administrative leadership in an academic medical center or large hospital setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in surgical education and mentorship.
  • Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience.
