Job Summary

The Hospitalist is responsible for providing high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals admitted to the hospital. This role involves diagnosing and treating a wide range of medical conditions, managing complex cases, and ensuring effective communication with patients, families, and other healthcare providers.

Responsibilities
  • Patient Care:

    • Conduct thorough evaluations, including taking medical histories and performing physical exams.
    • Diagnose and manage a variety of medical conditions and diseases.
    • Develop and implement treatment plans and monitor patient progress.
    • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, such as blood work and imaging studies.
    • Perform medical procedures as necessary and within scope of practice.
  • Coordination and Communication:

    • Collaborate with specialists, nurses, and other healthcare team members to provide comprehensive patient care.
    • Communicate effectively with patients and their families regarding treatment plans, progress, and prognosis.
    • Provide discharge planning and patient education to ensure continuity of care after hospitalization.
  • Documentation:

    • Maintain accurate and timely medical records, including progress notes, discharge summaries, and orders.
    • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, legal requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Quality Improvement:

    • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of best practices.
    • Stay updated on medical advancements and integrate new knowledge into practice.
  • Administrative Duties:

    • Attend and contribute to hospital meetings, including rounds and case discussions.
    • Manage patient flow and coordinate admissions and discharges efficiently.
  • Emergency Response:

    • Respond to urgent medical situations and provide critical care when needed.
    • Participate in on-call duties as required by the hospital.
Qualifications

Hospitalist Requirements

  • Education: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Licensure: Board certification in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine; valid medical license in the state of practice.
  • Experience: Prior experience in a hospital setting preferred; new graduates may be considered.
  • Skills: Strong diagnostic and clinical skills, excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, and proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems.

Salary: $200,000-$250,000
