Oncology Hospitalist (Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Columbia University Medical Center)

The Division of Hematology/Oncology in the Department of Medicine at the Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC) are inviting applications from highly qualified junior and/or midcareer physician at the Assistant Professor level for the Oncology Hospitalist Service at New York-Presbyterian Hospital Columbia campus.

The faculty of the Division of Hematology/Oncology in the Department of Medicine are also members of the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center (HICCC) which is one of only 57 National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the United States, with more than 260 members across six schools at Columbia University with more than $35 million in National Cancer Institute funding and over $120 million in cancer grants.

  • The candidate will serve as the attending physician for the inpatient Solid Tumor service each year on alternating one-week blocks (7 days on / 7 days off) with additional sick call backup coverage. An alternative schedule may be considered.
  • The candidate will directly oversee a team of physician assistants and/or house staff in providing high quality subspecialized and step-down level care for a complex and diverse patient population. No "first-call" responsibilities.
  • The candidate will complete all inpatient documentation and billing in a timely fashion.
  • The candidate will have clinical, academic, and teaching responsibilities to support their career development.
  • The candidate will closely collaborate with outpatient teams to maintain the highest quality care and patient safety during patient transitions and discharges.

Minimum Qualifications: Candidate must have an M.D. or equivalent medical professional degree and must be eligible to practice in the State of New York.

  • Have clinical experience or expertise in caring for hospitalized cancer patients
  • Provide comprehensive, up to date, and evidence-based cancer care

  • Be comfortable with primary Palliative Medicine
