Neurological Surgery Description

The neurosurgery program of Columbia University seeks an experienced, academically oriented, pediatric neurosurgery spine specialist.

New York-Presbyterian, the regional health system powered by Columbia University and Weill Cornell Medicine, has been consistently ranked by US News & World Report as one of the top hospitals in New York, with its neurosurgery program #3 in the U.S. The 2022 Newsweek rankings placed the combined neurosurgery service of Columbia and Weill Cornell as #1 in the world. Specialized pediatric locations include the Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital and the Komansky Children’s Hospital in New York City.

The selected candidate will hold a primary appointment at Columbia University and be recommended for an adjunct appointment y will join a multi-disciplinary team of four ABPNS-certified pediatric neurosurgeons and complement a diverse and comprehensive clinical program that emphasizes sub-specialization and innovation. The central role of education is evident in that the service includes a recently approved ABPNS accredited fellowship.

This full-time position includes a leadership role for a newly established pediatric neurosurgery spine program, being launched in collaboration with pediatric orthopedic surgery. The selected candidate will serve as the pediatric lead for NYP Och Spine, a coordinated and comprehensive program encompassing the entire NYP enterprise. Surgical conditions will include neuromuscular deformity, craniovertebral junction abnormalities, cervical spine disorders, spinal trauma, and the entire range of spinal deformity occurring in the growing child.

Surgical management of spasticity is desired but is not a prerequisite for this position.
