Join the Inpatient Gastroenterology (GI) Service as an Advanced Practice Provider (APP)! Are you passionate about caring for medically complex patients and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver exceptional inpatient care?
Role OverviewIn this role, you will provide comprehensive inpatient consultative care to adult oncology patients with a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions and treatment-related complications. This role will also requires rotations to support patients requiring parenteral nutrition. Working in close partnership with GI physicians, hospitalists, surgeons, oncologists, and multidisciplinary teams, you will evaluate, diagnose, and help manage patients requiring specialized gastroenterology consultation across the hospital.
This position offers the opportunity to care for patients with complex gastrointestinal disorders, including complications related to cancer, immunotherapy, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and stem cell transplantation. You will participate in daily consult rounds, coordinate care across services, assist with diagnostic workups, and help optimize patients for endoscopic procedures while ensuring seamless communication with the primary teams. As a member of MSK's nationally recognized Gastroenterology Service, you will work alongside faculty of the Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition Service to provide high-quality, evidence-based care to one of the country's most complex patient populations.
- Graduate from an accredited PA program NCCPA certification Active NYS license or be qualified for state licensure
- Minimum of 2 years of inpatient APP experience preferred, ideally in gastroenterology, hospital medicine, oncology, surgery, or another acute care specialty BLS certification
- For Nurse Practitioners:
Current New York State (NYS) RN and NP licenses/registrations Family Nurse Practitioner certification required Master's degree in nursing with prescriptive privileges (or eligibility) Minimum of 2 years of inpatient APP experience preferred, ideally in gastroenterology, hospital medicine, oncology, surgery, or another acute care specialty BLS certification
- Clinical Assessment:
Perform comprehensive evaluations of hospitalized patients with complex gastrointestinal conditions and develop appropriate management plans. - Collaboration:
Partner closely with gastroenterologists, primary inpatient teams, surgeons, nurses, and multidisciplinary colleagues to deliver coordinated patient care. - Clinical Judgment:
Utilize strong critical thinking skills to assess acute GI issues, prioritize consults, and recognize patients requiring urgent intervention. - Communication:
Effectively communicate recommendations with consulting teams, patients, and families while ensuring continuity of care. - Care Coordination:
Facilitate diagnostic testing, procedural planning, discharge recommendations, and transitions of care. - Adaptability:
