Job Description

Do You Love Jesus, Students, and Kansas City? If so, we might have the perfect role for you.

Leawood Presbyterian Church (LPC) is looking for a high-energy, relational leader who is passionate about helping students follow Jesus and live out their faith in everyday life. We want a leader who sees student ministry as more than just running programs—but instead as a mission to disciple, equip, and empower students to be the church now, not just in the future.

We’re looking for a visionary leader who can inspire students, develop a team of adult leaders, and partner with parents to help young people KNOW God, GROW in Christ, SHOW His love, and GO make disciples. If you’re looking for a church that values creativity, deep relationships, and real-life discipleship, keep reading.

Why Kansas City? Because It’s the Best.

This isn’t just a job—it’s an invitation to plant your life in one of the most exciting, fastest-growing cities in the country. Kansas City isn’t just on the map—it’s making headlines. Home of the back-to-back Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs and the beloved Kansas City Royals, this city has a deep sense of pride and community.

Beyond sports, KC is a hidden gem of culture, food, and family-friendly living:

  • The Best BBQ on the Planet – From legendary spots like Jack Stack, Joe’s KC & Q39 to hidden gems in every neighborhood, we take our slow-smoked meats seriously.
  • A Booming City with a Small-Town Feel – Kansas City is growing fast but still has tight-knit neighborhoods and incredible schools, making it an ideal place for families.
  • A Food Scene That Rivals Any Major City – Think more than just BBQ. We’re talking world-class coffee, craft breweries, and cutting-edge restaurants featured in Bon Appétit and The New York Times.
  • Affordable, Beautiful Living – Unlike other major metros, KC lets you live big without breaking the bank. More house, more backyard, more life.
  • The Friendliest People You’ll Ever Meet – Seriously. Whether you’re grabbing coffee, catching a game, or just walking in your neighborhood, people here make real connections.

If you want big-city opportunities with a tight-knit, small-town feel, KC is the place to be.

Responsibilities
  • Leading Students in Discipleship and Evangelism
    • Teach the Word of God in ways that connect with students and inspire life change.
    • Create spaces for authentic relationships, worship, and faith development.
    • Be where students are—at games, in schools, in coffee shops, and out in the community.
    • Help students serve and lead, both in the church and in Kansas City (Freedom Fire Ministries, Mission Adelante, our food pantry, and global missions).
    • Make sure every student is known, loved, and discipled by a caring adult leader.
  • Building and Leading a Team
    • Recruit, train, and invest in a strong team of adult volunteers who disciple students.
    • Build a culture of mentorship where leaders aren’t just chaperones but spiritual guides.
    • Regularly meet with your team for prayer, vision, and strategy.
  • Partnering with Parents
    • Equip parents to be the primary spiritual leaders in their kids’ lives.
    • Keep parents in the loop with consistent communication (emails, texts, coffee meetings).
    • Be a resource and encouragement for families navigating life with teenagers.
  • Creating a Sustainable and Strategic Ministry
    • Align student ministry with Purpose Driven Youth Ministry (Doug Fields) and XP3 Orange Strategies to develop lifelong disciples.
    • Plan and lead weekly gatherings, retreats, camps, and mission trips that are fun, meaningful, and gospel-centered.
    • Oversee the student ministry budget responsibly.
    • Be an active part of the LPC staff team, attending meetings and collaborating with other ministries.
The Mustard Seed House – Your Ministry Hub

A game‑changer for this role? You get a house. LPC owns a beautifully renovated three‑bedroom home right next to the church, worth $1M. We call it The Mustard Seed House—a built‑in ministry space for students to gather, connect, and grow. With a huge backyard, it’s the perfect spot for bonfires, BBQs, Bible studies, and all the spontaneous student ministry moments that make this job amazing.

Oh, and did we mention? It’s rent‑free. The…
