Position: Math Tutor (Part-Time)
Location: New York

Integration Charter School
is dedicated to providing innovative pathways to college that fully integrate students living with emotional challenges and others with special needs. In building a family of associated schools that share this common mission, IC strives to fill gaps in public education. When fully realized, IC, in conjunction with local public schools, will provide Staten Island parents of special needs children with an array of options which is richer than that enjoyed by any other community in the United States.

Summary

Under the direction and support of the classroom teacher and assistant principal and/or dean of instruction, the Math Tutor will play a key role in strengthening student learning and achievement. Using classroom math data, assessments, and learning outcomes, the Math Tutor will provide targeted instructional support to individual students and small groups to reinforce key concepts, close learning gaps, and enhance overall math proficiency.

Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized and small-group math tutoring aligned to classroom lessons, learning standards, and student needs.
  • Use classroom data, formative assessments, and teacher feedback to plan and deliver targeted intervention and support.
  • Reinforce student understanding of key math concepts, including Algebra I foundations and middle school standards.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to monitor student progress and adjust tutoring strategies accordingly.
  • Maintain clear, organized documentation of student performance and growth.
  • Support a positive and structured learning environment that promotes student engagement and confidence.
  • Assist with classroom tasks and academic support activities as directed by the classroom teacher and assistant principal.
  • Communicate regularly with instructional staff to ensure alignment of tutoring strategies with school wide academic goals.
Competencies & Qualifications
  • A “whatever it takes” attitude, one that is centered in the notion of “children first.”
  • Current college student majoring in Mathematics, Math Education, Secondary Education, or a related field; or recent graduate of such programs.
  • Coursework or demonstrated familiarity with Algebra I and middle school math learning standards.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret student data to inform targeted instructional support.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with middle school students.
  • Interest in pursuing a career in education, tutoring, teaching, or related academic fields.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with classroom teachers and instructional leaders.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and academically rigorous learning environment.
  • High degree of organizational skills; detail-oriented with ability to follow through in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to use tech platforms such as Kickboard, Power School, Google Drive to track data and communicate effectively with the school community.
  • A deep belief that every child can succeed, and a willingness to uphold high expectations for students, staff, and oneself to ensure that students are set up for success.
  • Ability to model social-emotional skills such as, willingness to take feedback, hear new perspectives, and try new things in support of student growth.
  • Willingness to engage in professional learning and development around issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Leadership Mindset: takes ownership of creating a thriving, joyful school community rooted in IC Core Values, and modeling that for others.
Salary/Hours

$30.00-$35.00 per hour
