Position: Amazing Athletes After school Poetry Instructor
Location: New York

We are seeking a thoughtful and imaginative Poetry & Creative Writing Instructor for our after school program at PS166! This position is perfect for someone who believes in the power of words and wants to help K–5 students express themselves through poetry, journaling, and creative storytelling.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Lead fun and accessible poetry and writing activities tailored for young learners.
- Encourage students to explore rhyme, rhythm, and voice while building confidence as writers.
- Plan creative prompts and group sharing circles that invite self-expression.
- Help students create poetry books, zines, or presentations to proudly share with families.
- Collaborate with admin and complete all digital reporting tasks.

This is you:

- Experience working with students, preferably elementary age.
- Strong background in creative writing, poetry, or literature.
- Experience teaching or mentoring children in writing.
- Encouraging, warm, and full of creative ideas.
- Great classroom presence and ability to inspire budding writers.

The

Schedule:

- Day:
Thursday & Friday (part-time availability)
- Time: 2:40 PM - 5:40 PM (broken into two sessions: early session 2:40 PM-4:20 PM and late session 4:20 PM-5:40 PM)
- Season begins September 4th, however we are looking for candidates who can commit for the full 2025-26’ school year.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in Education, Literature, or a related field.
- Strong creative writing or poetry background.
- Experience working with children in an educational or mentoring capacity.
- Ability to create and guide age-appropriate writing prompts.
- Enthusiastic, supportive, and creative teaching style.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience in curriculum development.
- Experience leading writing workshops based classes for youth.
- Passion for youth storytelling and community-based writing.

- Compensation: $30-35 per hour, depending on experience.
