About Emet Classical Academy is a Jewish preparatory school for 5th to 12th graders on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Overview

Emet Classical Academy seeks a Middle School Literature and Composition Teacher who brings a love of the written word, a command of literary analysis, and the ability to cultivate a deep reading culture. The ideal candidate helps students grow as readers, writers, and thinkers through rich texts from the classical, biblical, and Western literary traditions.

Core Responsibilities
  • Teach literature and composition courses for middle school students (grades 5–8).
  • Lead students through increasingly complex reading, written analysis, grammar, and vocabulary.
  • Teach core texts aligned with our classical curriculum.
  • Build habits of annotation, close reading, structured discussion, and clear writing.
  • Collaborate with Humanities and Writing teachers to align student skill progression.
  • Contribute to assemblies, community rituals, and broader school culture.
Qualifications
  • Degree in English, Literature, Humanities, or related field.
  • Strong command of grammar instruction and classical reading practices.
  • Experience teaching middle school students with warmth, structure, and high expectations.
  • Affinity for classical texts and interest in teaching a curriculum that is highly intentional and integrated.
