Location: New York

Village Community School seeks a self-motivated, collaborative, and forward-thinking Librarian to manage the school’s library, foster a love of reading, and ensure that the library’s academic and technical resources advance the school’s educational program. A Master of Library Science or equivalent and school library experience are preferred.

Salary Range: $78,000-$142,500

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Create and maintain an inclusive learning environment that is conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Affirm the identities of all members of our community and ensure the library collection is inclusive and diverse.
  • Curate and manage the library collection, remaining current with publishing trends and best practices in school librarianship. Select, purchase, catalogue, and maintain books, digital resources, and media equipment.
  • Actively teach engaging and motivating weekly library classes to K-5 th Grade students which include library skills, digital citizenship, research skills, read-alouds, and book selection.
  • Collaborate with K-8 teachers to support curriculum and the development of research skills.
  • Manage library operations, including organizing the physical space, managing circulation, repairing books, and supervising parent volunteers.
  • Conduct Family Reading Nights, help organize the Book Fair, and promote reading initiatives.
  • Meet and communicate with parents both formally and informally (email, phone calls, conferences, and progress reports).
  • Monitor students during additional duties such as lunch, recess, and after-school library.
  • Attend specialist, staff, and professional development meetings.
  • Report directly to the Lower School Director.
