Postdoctoral Fellow, First-Year Writing
The First-Year Writing Program (FYW) at Barnard College invites applications for a three-year, non-renewable position as Postdoctoral Fellow in the First Year Writing Program. FYW teaches the skills of academic writing and critical inquiry to all Barnard students and prepares them for the rigors of Barnard’s liberal arts education in all disciplines.
Job DescriptionThe First-Year Writing Program (FYW) at Barnard College invites applications for a three-year, non-renewable position as Postdoctoral Fellow in FYW. FYW teaches the skills of academic writing and critical inquiry to all Barnard students and prepares them for the rigors of Barnard’s liberal arts education in all disciplines.
Responsibilities Include- Develop and teach a 2/2 course load in FYW
- Work with the Director of FYW on pedagogical projects
- Outreach to and writing support for departments across the college
- Program and curricular development in FYW
Additionally, the Postdoc will lead workshops in innovative writing pedagogy for FYW instructors, and will support Barnard faculty and students in writing both in and across the disciplines. The Postdoc will actively pursue research in writing pedagogy and writing programs, with an emphasis on writing across the disciplines and teaching writing to students from a variety of educational backgrounds.
Skills, Qualifications & RequirementsRequired Qualifications
Applicants must have earned their Ph.D. after May 1, 2023 or must plan to do so by May 2026. Successful applicants will have:
- A background in writing pedagogy
- Experience implementing innovative pedagogies
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching writing at the college level, preferably to students from a range of educational backgrounds (including non-native speakers)
- Experience working in a writing program and/or writing center is strongly preferred
- CV
- Letter of interest
- Statement of teaching philosophy
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness
- Sample syllabi of courses taught and/or a syllabus for an academic writing course that you have developed.

Salary$70,000

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.
