Assistant Professor of Biology (Tenure-Track) – Comparative or Quantitative Genomics

Full-time tenure-track faculty position at The City College of New York (CCNY). Salary range: $90,838 – $102,017 per year.

Overview

We seek an Assistant Professor whose research incorporates comparative or quantitative genomics. The candidate will develop a productive research program linking multiple biological disciplines and biological systems. The research must include cutting‑edge genomic approaches, possibly integrating AI/machine-learning, to address fundamental questions in biology (immunology, bacterial pathogenesis, neurobiology, developmental biology, disease ecology, evolutionary biology, etc.) with non‑model organisms (animals, plants, microbes). Candidates who can construct modern genomic tools and statistical approaches that leverage machine learning are strongly preferred.

Research

& Teaching Expectations

– Develop an externally funded research program in comparative/quantitative genomics that interacts with our strengths in ecology/evolution, neuroscience, and molecular/cellular biology.
– Integrate research with undergraduate and graduate teaching, mentoring, and advising.
– Contribute to departmental, college, or university committees.
– Teach undergraduate or graduate courses.

Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Biology or a related field.
  • Post‑doctoral research experience in a relevant field.
  • Demonstrated potential to maintain an extramurally funded research program.
  • Prior experience mentoring student researchers.
  • Ability to contribute to service and teaching roles.
Preferred Expertise
  • Functional and regulatory genomics.
  • Comparative phylogenomics to reconstruct developmental and/or evolutionary histories.
  • Genome structure, such as structural variation or gene regulation.
  • Population genomics and conservation genetics.
  • Genomic variation underlying adaptation, complex traits, or speciation.
Compensation and Benefits

• Salary range: $90,838 – $102,017 annually.
