The Museum of Jewish Heritage – A Living Memorial to the Holocaust seeks experienced museum educators with a passion for history to lead tours for students. We seek committed and engaging guides beginning March 2026. Educators will complete paid training sessions with Education staff that focus on the historical content of the exhibition, “The Holocaust:
What Hate Can Do,” as well as artifact‑ and dialogue‑based tour techniques. After successful completion of the training, educators must be available for a minimum of two days weekly to lead school tours. This is an on‑call position offered on an as‑needed basis; the number of assigned tours depends on the number of tours booked. Educators are expected to make a commitment of at least two days per week, Mondays through Fridays.

This position is for 16 weeks, concluding with the fall semester (June 2026) with the potential to renew in the fall.

Responsibilities
  • Mastering exhibition content, tour outline, and background material
  • While using a highly structured tour outline, staying attuned to the students in the group, listening carefully to their answers to your questions to learn how they are making sense of the material
  • Calling upon the history learned in training to provide students with information that is accurate, clear, concise, and age‑appropriate
  • Following the tour outline, including time requirements, while fostering an inclusive experience that remains sensitive to the experiences of the students in your group
  • Staying aware of other groups in the galleries and recognizing that collegial relationships are important to accomplishing the goal of educating all student visitors
  • Maintaining timely and consistent communication with Museum staff, especially relating to tour confirmations, feedback, training, and documentation for payment
Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in history, education, museum studies or a related field
  • Museum education, tour leading, or classroom education experience
  • Knowledge of and/or strong interest in the history of the Holocaust
  • Ability to learn and memorize tour outline, as well as the ability to tailor content in the galleries as needed
  • A welcoming, professional demeanor, collegial, and comfortable with flexibility
  • Good judgment and problem‑solving skills when faced with unforeseen circumstances
  • Habits of consistent reliability and punctuality
  • Ability to be physically active for a minimum of two hours
Position Details
  • Reports to Museum Educator Manager
  • Temporary, part‑time at least two days a week for 16 weeks (through June 2026)
  • Potential to renew in Fall 2026
  • Salary (non‑exempt): $30 per hour ($45 per overtime hour)
