Associate Provost/Assistant Vice President
POSITION DETAILSReporting to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs provides strategic leadership and management in curriculum program development and academic master planning, grant administration, and retention initiatives within the Office of Academic Affairs. This role includes oversight of strategic planning, assessment, quality improvement, and compliance activities, as well as faculty professional development and resource cultivation to support institutional goals.
The Associate Provost fosters collaboration among faculty, deans, Student Affairs and Enrollment Management staff, and external stakeholders to advance the institution’s strategic priorities. This includes creating connections between academic disciplines, skills development, and lifelong learning opportunities to support student success from enrollment through graduation and beyond. They will oversee the implementation of best practices in academic programming in partnership with local, regional, and national stakeholders, focusing on enhancing enrollment, retention, and student outcomes.
Additionally, the Associate Provost will strengthen the institution’s academic brand and align its programs with the evolving needs of the broader community.
Foster the general goals of York College with a focus on strategies and special projects that extend the mission of the College and enhance academic and institutional excellence.
Drive innovation in curriculum program development
, including the design, launch, and evaluation of new degree and non-degree offerings that reflect current and future workforce demands.Collaborate with Deans and academic departments to ensure academic programs are responsive, interdisciplinary, and future-focused, and to align credit and non-credit programming to create seamless pathways for lifelong learning and career advancement.
Continuously identify and adopt best practices in academic programming to maintain a competitive advantage in credit and non-credit offerings.
Work collaboratively with Strategic Communications to establish York College’s academic brand and promote new programs to industry partners and prospective students.
Enhance faculty professional development through innovative initiatives supporting their scholarship and pedagogy.
Represent the College in local, regional, state, and national forums, including K-12 schools and post-secondary institutions, to build academic partnerships and pipelines.
Work with Deans and departments to infuse career-readiness into the curriculum.
Expand student placements and internships in partnership with Career Services and academic departments to enhance experiential learning.
Collaborate with Institutional Advancement to secure external funding for academic initiatives and program expansion.
Develop and implement a comprehensive retention plan for non-matriculated students, with a focus on academic engagement and support.
Lead the development and enhancement of assessment activities to improve retention, completion rates, and program outcomes.
Other duties or projects as assigned by the Provost or the President.
This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.
An earned doctorate (or equivalent) degree and academic credentials for a tenured professorial appointment at the rank of Professor in an appropriate academic department is required for this position.
The following are highly preferred qualifications for this position at York:
Significant (minimum of six (6) years) administrative experience at the level of department chair, dean, or other equivalent or higher position or rank in a degree granting institution.
Significant academic achievements in research, course and program development.
Commitment to urban education and to a diverse faculty and student body.
Collaborative and collegial management style.
