Position Overview

The Behavior Specialist is responsible for supporting the social‑emotional, mental, and behavioral health of all students. Supervised by the Assistant Principal of Student Services, the Behavior Specialist provides day‑to‑day support and modeling for classroom teachers to implement tiered behavior interventions and develop and carry out Behavior Intervention Plans. Behavior Specialists assist school administrators in the planning and execution of Professional Development that addresses school‑wide social‑emotional needs and are designed in response to campus behavior data trends.

In addition, Behavior Specialists work directly with Scholars to implement tiered behavior supports in service of Scholar flourishing.

Core Competencies & Responsibilities
  • Provides staff support and modeling for behavior intervention strategies
  • Assists in creating functional behavioral assessments (FBA) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs)
  • Monitors student progress, makes referrals, and collaborates with external agencies as needed
  • Guides students in conflict resolution, accountability, and empathy
  • Offers Professional Development to enhance teachers’ classroom management skills
  • Models best practices and provides actionable feedback for improved student and teacher outcomes
  • Works closely with school leadership to ensure effective behavioral and academic processes
  • Collaborates with instructional staff to identify Tier 2 & 3 behavior support structures
  • Coordinates workshops on de‑escalation, behavior interventions, and student support for staff and families
  • Attends various meetings and contributes to school culture through consistent participation
  • Maintains appropriate, accurate student data records
  • Regularly communicates with families during and after school hours to support/report behavioral management questions or concerns
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Restorative Practitioner and/or Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification or licensure (preferred)
  • Degree in Special Education, related human services field, or significant qualitative experience with behavioral management in a school setting (willingness to pursue additional certification/degree)
  • An unwavering, confident, and enthusiastic commitment to the educational mission of the Brilla Schools Network in service to the school community
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification (preferred)
  • Appreciation for Classical liberal arts educational tradition (preferred)
  • Spanish and/or French language proficiency (preferred)
