Academic Program Specialist (Curricular Support) - Curriculum Development and Assessment

POSITION DETAILS

The CUNY School of Medicine (CUNY SoM) located in the heart of Harlem, New York, is the only medical school in the City University of New York system and the only public medical school in Manhattan. Building upon 50 years of success as the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, the institution transitioned to the CUNY School of Medicine (SoM) in 2016.

The CUNY SoM offers an accelerated BS/MD degree (7-year program) and a Physician Assistant Master’s Degree (27 months program). True to its legacy of access, opportunity, and community transformation, the medical school’s mission remains to recruit highly talented students as diverse as New York City itself. CUNY SoM places a special emphasis on the recruitment of those who are underrepresented in the field of medicine and on training high quality, culturally competent health professionals and scientists equipped to address the healthcare needs of New York’s medically under-served communities.

As a major priority, CUNY SoM also seeks to enhance the recruitment and retention of senior leadership, faculty, and staff to more closely reflect the diversity of our student body.

The SoM is currently seeking an Academic Program Specialist with a focus of responsibility on planning, executing, and guiding academic support and clinical initiatives for SoM students. The Academic Program Specialist will support the school’s faculty and students by assisting with curriculum development, organizing teaching materials, assisting with course logistics, and integrating educational technologies.

In addition to the above and the CUNY Title Overview, duties include but are not limited to the following responsibilities:

  • Support and promote student academic success by coordinating the daily operations for all curricular and co-curricular initiatives and academic department support programs;
    Maintaining and organizing curriculum materials, teaching schedules, and course updates to ensure they are current and accessible to students and faculty.
  • Assist with the administration of OSCEs and exams, including for team-based learning, and managing course grade books;
    Provide regular analysis and present course data to the Associate Dean to evaluate effectiveness and inform program improvements.
  • Provide oversight and support for the integration of new tools and technologies into the curriculum to enhance the learning experience;
    Collaborate with the Associate Dean to strategize and define annual objectives including learning outcomes, evaluations, and target audiences.
  • Maintain course websites, help with exam administration, communicating with students, and presenting course data to support the overall academic operations of a medical training program. Acting as a central point of contact for students, answering questions about course content and logistics, and assisting with digital content navigation.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies, equipment and/or reagents. May order supplies/equipment/reagents as authorized or ensure that needs are escalated appropriately.
  • Coordinates calendars and schedules appointments and meetings. Prioritizes requests for meetings and coordinates the necessary arrangements for meetings;
    Initiates and prepares written correspondence as needed and based on functional needs.
  • Answers phones, responds to inquiries and triages calls to appropriate personnel;
    Responsible for travel and conference arrangements. Organizes itinerary, makes appropriate reservations for travel and accommodations for curriculum related travel.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Associate Dean for Curriculum and Assessment or designee.
