Job Summary

The After School Group Leader is responsible for the overall safety, development, management, organization and planning of their group. This includes integrated educational projects, recreation, arts & crafts and group building activities.

Major Duties
  • Overall supervision and management of identified group of participants.
  • Engage participants in after school activities and role model appropriate behavior.
  • Ensure safety of participants at all times.
  • As needed, engage in outreach activities to ensure attendance and participation.
  • Provide support to activity instructors and other group leaders.
  • Develop and facilitate a sequenced and thematic curriculum and other various activities including arts & crafts. Curriculum should promote creativity, self-expression, opportunity for mastery, and emotional growth and future focus/career exploration as well as professional growth.
  • Integrate lessons enriched with literacy, history and other related academic subjects when applicable.
  • Develop positive relationships with participants, colleagues and school/center personnel.
  • Attends all staff meetings and staff development trainings sessions, as specified (including Saturday and evening trainings).
  • Assist with monitoring and maintaining the rules of the program and upholding the after school model.
  • Plan and prepare culminating events for participants to showcase their activities.
  • Ensure participants are prepared and able to illustrate what they learned in culminating events.
  • Assist with organizing parent family culminating engagement events.
  • Engage with parents and guardians as necessary in a professional manner.
  • Discuss behavior problems, safety concerns and situations with supervisor as they emerge, and completing necessary documentation and paperwork.
  • Mandated Reporter.
  • Resolve conflict within your group while seeking assistance from other staff, supervisors and directors when necessary.
  • Foster a positive youth development approach focusing on , strength’s-based environment, fostering a sense of belonging, independence, generosity, mastery safety, and community to participants.
  • Supervise support staff assigned to your group (including but not limited to assistant group leader, interns, volunteers, etc.).
  • Track and support participant’s development and growth areas. Engage and facilitate group conversations, tracking and supporting students’ participant’s academic success.
  • Responsible for the safe arrival and dismissal of all program participants.
  • Inspect all facilities, equipment, and supplies and be sure all are locked away securely at the end of each day.
  • Available to work during holidays and OST days (13-15 days).
  • Maintain all required records for your group, including attendance.
  • Maintain strict adherence to policies and procedures at all times.
  • Participate in after school events and trips.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High School/ GED Diploma and 1 year related experience in leading and participating in youth group development related activities required.
  • Experience building a camp culture through chants, team building activities, and community building preferred.
  • Can contribute a talent or experience in arts, music, crafts, etc. a plus.
  • A commitment to working with youth from a variety of backgrounds, while providing high quality services.
  • Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based, youth and family development and trauma-informed perspective.
