Position(s): School Lunch and Recess Monitor (K-5)
Effective: Immediate
Description: Perform a variety of non‑teaching duties in overseeing student activities and maintaining order in school buildings, on school grounds, and playgrounds; perform related work as required.
Hours:
11:00 – 1:35 AM, Monday – Friday. This is a civil service position and a regular part‑time probationary position.
Approx. $19.21 per hour.
Terms of employment are in accordance with the CSEA Clerical, Teacher Aide/Teaching Assistant contract.
Recess- Meet students on playground during recess.
- Circulate through designated playground area to actively supervise students.
- Respond immediately to inappropriate physical behavior.
- Approach students playing alone to check in.
- Mediator conflict between students.
- Actively supervise students to prevent conflicts.
- Walk students from recess to lunch quietly so as not to disrupt classes in session.
- Establish consequences for inappropriate behavior during recess such as time away from the group, facilitated apologies, etc.
- Inform Teacher Recess Lead if a student does not respond to redirection/consequences.
- Ensure safe behavior to prevent injury.
- Ensure that students line up for lunch promptly.
- Ensure that students start eating lunch promptly.
- Ensure students are sitting at assigned tables at all times except when getting lunch, throwing away lunch, getting water, using the bathroom, or going to the nurse.
- Maintain quiet student volume in cafeteria.
- Immediately become silent and ensure students become silent when an adult is making an announcement on the microphone.
- Circulate through designated cafeteria area to actively supervise students.
- Monitor student clean‑up and composting.
- Establish consequences for inappropriate behavior during lunch such as time away from the group, facilitated apologies, etc.
- Through active supervision, be quick to notice and respond to any students that need redirection or support.
- Enforce extra supervision for and separations between students as needed.
- Transition promptly with students between recess/lunch/classroom.
- Assess safety and send students to the nurse with a pass if needed.
- Attend weekly lunch monitor meetings.
- Arrive to work and meetings promptly.
- Check email daily for timely updates.
- Respect, use, and understand students’ preferred names and pronouns.
