Youth Development, Guidance Counselor: Social/Educational, Child Development/Support
Location: New York
Responsibilities
Plan and facilitate weekly groups with students, including post-secondary activity groups.
Monitor student attendance and educational progress as they progress to graduation.
Provide college readiness activities to ensure that graduates of EBCHS have a clear and attainable post‑graduation plan.
Develop activities that encourage the exploration of college as a postsecondary option and provide assistance to students with college choices, exploration, and the completion of college applications.
Plan and implement parent workshops on financial aid and college choice to engage parents in college as a viable option for students.
Partner with local CUNY colleges and have knowledge of how students can apply to FAFSA, SEEK, EOP, HEOP, and College Discovery.
Plan college trips at local, upstate, and out of state colleges and chaperone students on trips.
Assist with student referrals to outside resources, including employment, emergency shelter, day care, health services, and additional social services.
Work as a collaborative team, including participation in staff meetings, retreats, and staff development, to support student progress.
Provide counseling and conduct attendance outreach, including home visits and visits to work sites.
Provide crisis intervention and conflict mediation and assistance as needed.
Support student growth by providing continuous feedback and resources to meet the individual needs of students.
Assist students in preparing financial aid, college applications, and other post‑high school career and academic plans.
Regularly update student contact information; follow up with graduates and maintain data on post‑secondary education and employment for graduates after they leave the school.
Work as a team with school leadership and other Future Focus Counselors.
Other duties as required.
Qualifications – ExternalBachelor's Degree Required.
Prior experience working with adolescents required, including individual and group work.
Commitment to assisting students in understanding and working with the school mission and philosophy.
Commitment to working as a member of a school team.
Commitment to work from a strengths‑based and youth development perspective.
