ResponsibilitiesThe New School Archives and Special Collections–a unit of the New School Libraries, Collections and Academic Services ( LCAS )–seeks 2-5 students with Federal Work Study awards to serve as Archives Pages. The archives page will work under the supervision of the archivists to retrieve boxes from on-site storage, prepare for research appointments and class visits, transfer Special Collections books to other library spaces, and be a welcoming first point of contact for visitors conducting research in the Archives.
Open to students with Federal Work Study awards only, this is an on-campus position, approximately 4-8 hours a week. A schedule will be established with supervisor approval for hours worked between Monday and Friday, 9:15 am to 5:15 pm. Once established, the student must maintain a consistent schedule and commit to the position for the entire semester, preferably with the intention of remaining in the position throughout the academic year.
Preference will be given to students in the early stages of their academic program. Applicants must submit a resume and a letter of interest.

Responsibilities include:
- Locates, retrieves, and prepares archival materials requested by patrons
- Shelves materials after staff use, research appointments, and class visits
- Open or close the Research Room on weekdays
- Communicates and enforces Research Room policies and procedures to users in a courteous manner
- Engage directly with library and archives patrons by answering in-person inquiries and referring patrons to the appropriate place or person for assistance
- Assists researchers with basic computer, internet and audio/visual equipment usage during appointments when necessary
Work mode:
On-Campus Position – Employees in this position are expected to work on-campus during regularly scheduled work hours due to the nature of the work being that which is not feasible, or not in the best interest of the organization, to be performed remotely.
Hourly rate: $17.00/hour
Minimum Qualifications- Strong communication skills and ability to follow verbal and written instructions in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and punctuality
- Superior English written and oral communication skills
- Adaptable and consistent when notifying the supervisor of schedule changes
- Facility to work independently, with minimal supervision
- Physical ability and willingness to lift boxes up to 50lbs, push loaded book carts, and sit at a desk for extended periods
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to interact with visitors, internal and external to the university
- Basic computer and basic technology skills, such as Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications
