Job Description
Jazz at Lincoln Center seeks a dynamic, highly skilled, creative and organized jazz educator to join the Youth Programs as Ensemble Instructor. The Ensemble Instructor works closely with the Youth Programs Director to provide support to Middle School Jazz Academy, High School Jazz Academy, and Summer Jazz Academy, as needed.
The Youth Programs course of study includes a series of music lessons, ensemble rehearsals, summer camp, performances and broader youth development. The Youth Programs curriculum combines skills-based learning with aesthetic education, emphasizing self and group discovery, creativity, open questions, and guided reflection.
LocationAll classes and rehearsals for Youth Programs take place at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and/or Bard College.
Ensemble Instructor Responsibilities- Co-teach a 90-minute ensemble class and/or sectionals on Saturdays from 9am to 1:00pm
- Plan curriculum with Band Directors for ensemble classes
- Attend necessary planning meetings with faculty and staff
- Participate in assessment of student learning
- Write and submit lesson plans and evaluations for Saturday classes
- High level of interest in jazz education and serving the needs of high school and middle school students
- Excellent instrumental ability in piano, drums, bass, guitar, trumpet, trombone, clarinet, flute, or saxophone
- Solid organizational, coordination, and communication (verbal and written) skills
- High level of enthusiasm and ability to work as a team player
- Committed to youth development and the use of jazz to enrich their lives
- Experience in Google Classroom and Google Sheets
- Current college or graduate student in jazz performance and/or music education
- Required to attend at least 75% of staff meetings
- Through July, up to 30 hours a week
Performance is to be evaluated annually by the Program Director and Vice President of Education.
