Carnegie Hall seeks Resident Assistants for its three national youth ensembles. A group of student musicians from a wide range of backgrounds will be chosen via a highly selective application/audition process to participate in a tuition-free instrumental training program, culminating in performances at Carnegie Hall and on tour.
Key responsibilities include:
* RAs will serve as crucial liaisons between NYO participants (ages 14 – 19) and the program’s administrative and artistic staff, to enhance each student’s experience and to help ensure their physical and mental well-being.
* RAs will live in close proximity to students during their training residency at Purchase College, State University of New York, and throughout a concert tour.
* Each RA will have direct responsibility for a group of about 11-16 students for the duration of the program.
* RAs are expected to assist NYO staff in conveying and implementing established policies, addressing student concerns, resolving conflicts, supervising recreational/social activities, and carrying out operational and production elements of the residency and tour.
* RAs are asked to initiate response to emergencies, monitor and report on student behavior, maintain confidentiality of medical or other personal information.
* They will play a key role in shaping the experience of students on tour and will be expected to assist their group with the logistics of the tour party’s travel, hotel, meal, and sight-seeing arrangements.
Qualifications:
* 21 years of age and older
* Significant prior supervisory experience with teenage students (as a resident assistant, camp counselor, classroom teacher, or comparable).
* RAs should possess a high degree of personal responsibility, sensitivity to and interest in other people, and a proven ability to troubleshoot.
* Applicants should have excellent leadership and communication skills, along with the capacity to serve as positive role models.
* Must have a valid passport and US citizenship or permanent residency.
* A driver’s license (with a clean driving record) is desirable.
* An active interest in classical and/or jazz music is strongly preferred.
* Compensation: $910 per week, plus room and board, including all tour expenses.
