Position Summary
Reporting directly to the Occupational Therapy Program Director, the Doctoral Capstone Coordinator supports the university in fulfillment of its mission, purpose, and goals. Provides program-specific expertise and is actively engaged in relevant department initiatives. Supports university, campus, and/or departmental goals in order to assure compliance with programmatic accreditation and/or licensure, internal consistency, and graduate outcomes that meet student learning, workplace, and placement expectations.
Provides professional leadership and support and serves as an educator, role model, mentor, and facilitator. Assists students in developing, refining, and enacting a capstone project, ensuring doctoral-level academic rigor, fulfillment of standards, and professional relevance. Evaluates student performance and ability to integrate didactic knowledge, evidence, theory, professional communication, and reasoning with the planning and implementation of the capstone project. Serves as a liaison between the occupational therapy program and capstone sites and is responsible for the selection, orientation, implementation, and evaluation of capstone sites, and nurtures the ongoing development of professional collaboration.
Fosters professional collegiality with capstone project mentors by providing training, education, and support throughout the capstone project process. Focuses extensively on facilitating student learning associated with prescribed course and program learning outcomes. Creates an educational environment that fosters innovation, responsiveness, and accountability. Actively and substantively participates in the assessment of student learning activities to maximize the potential for students to learn what is necessary to meet prescribed outcomes.

- Participates in and contributes to assessment activities of courses/curriculum and program via a continuous improvement plan as set forth by the University
- Demonstrates enthusiasm for teaching and the teaching/learning process, and for individual students
- Facilitates student learning in accordance with prescribed course and program learning outcomes
- Regularly contributes to the improvement or upgrading of class materials and syllabi
- Follows established protocols for providing timely feedback, academic advising, and assessment of student learning
- Keeps regular approved office hours (for FT faculty)
- Mentors students and faculty as assigned by the department/program dean/chair
- Explores scholarly research to improve teaching and instruction
- Begins to explore cross-disciplinary approaches to instruction
- Attends professional development activities each year, as agreed upon with the supervisor in the associate development plan
- Selects a minimum of one of the following activity areas: publishing & writing, acting as contributor to textbooks, presenting at conferences or educational trainings, attending test‑writing or accreditation activities, serving on thesis dissertation committee, or other agreed upon professional activity
- Identifies and applies specialized research or activities related to teaching, assigned teaching area(s), or may contribute to the scholarly community/knowledge of the discipline
- Attends Department, School, and University meetings/councils as arranged/approved by the program director
- Develops connections within the professional community, both inside and outside the University/Occupational Therapy program
- Contributes/demonstrates ongoing service in at least one of the following areas:
