The Skirball Department of Hebrew and Judaic Studies of New York University invites applications for a visiting lecturer in Hebrew Bible.

The appointment will begin on September 1, 2026, pending administrative and budgetary approval. This is a one-year position, renewable for a maximum of 3 total years.

This position will support teaching within the department's curriculum in Hebrew Bible and the ancient world, at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The teaching commitment is 6 courses per year. Teaching will include:

  • Courses that contribute to NYU's Core Curriculum program, including Cultures and Context:
    Ancient Israel;
  • Elementary instruction in Semitic languages (e.g., Akkadian, Aramaic, or Ugaritic at graduate level);
  • Additional courses related to the Hebrew Bible and the ancient world (at either undergraduate or graduate level).
Qualifications

We are seeking candidates with a record of teaching excellence in inclusive classrooms who are able to contribute to the intellectual life of Hebrew and Judaic Studies. Candidates should possess a doctorate in a field related to Hebrew Bible by August 31, 2026.

In compliance with NYCs Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $60,000.
