Middle School Librarian –
Full-Time – Beginning Late August 2026
Reports to: Middle School Division Head and Director of Library and Media Studies
FLSA: Exempt, full-time
Salary Range: $67,500 to $100,000, commensurate with education and experience
SummaryConvent of the Sacred Heart seeks a visionary and enthusiastic librarian to join our Middle School faculty to lead our library program for grades 5-8. The ideal candidate is a passionate educator with three or more years of library teaching experience who thrives in a collaborative, middle-school environment. As a key instructional partner, you will oversee a vibrant, inclusive collection and design inquiry-based learning experiences that empower students to become discerning researchers and lifelong readers.
ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities include, but are not limited to:
TEACHING- Plan and deliver weekly library lessons focused on independent research skills, including resource evaluation, ethical use, and proper citation.
- Partner with faculty to integrate research skills and educational technology into cross-disciplinary projects and classroom curricula.
- Cultivate a love of reading through diverse formats and high-engagement programs such as book clubs, summer reading, and literature-based activities.
- Provide reference support and research assistance to students to foster independent learning.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of a Pre-K through Grade 12 scope and sequence for library and information literacy instruction.
- Collaborate with the Middle School community to introduce new instructional materials and techniques that strengthen classroom teaching.
- Proactively source and provide specialized resources to assist Middle School teachers in achieving their specific instructional goals.
- Plan and participate in staff development programs to share expertise on research trends, library technology, and literacy pedagogy.
- Work closely with the Technology Integrationist to foster and promote healthy digital literacy.
- Participate fully in Middle School life, including homeroom duties, break-time supervision, and representing the library at parent events.
- Maintain regular communication and reporting lines with the Head of Middle School and the Director of Library Media Services.
- Partner with parent groups to lead major events like the Book Fair, and author visits.
- Attend Library Department meetings and faculty in-service days while staying current with industry trends through professional literature.
- Collaborate in the curation and maintenance of a diverse, multi-format resource collection for the Lower and Middle Schools that addresses various maturity levels and learning styles.
- Manage the Middle School library budget, including recommending annual expenditures and maintaining accurate financial records.
- Ensure collection relevancy and accessibility through systematic reviews, professional cataloging, and resource processing.
- Oversee the library environment, equipment, and furnishings in collaboration with the Lower School Librarian to ensure a functional learning space.
- Master’s degree in Library Science
- A minimum of 3 years experience in a school library
- Relevant experience in teaching and working with children in grades 5 to 8
- Knowledge of young adult literature and a willingness to read outside of work
- Fluency in Google Apps for Education, Ebsco Stacks, and Follett Destiny
