Elementary Sunday School Teacher

The Elementary Sunday School Teacher works under the Elementary Manager and Children’s Ministry Director to teach our elementary students grades K-6 on Sunday mornings during the services on Sundays from 8:30am-1:00pm (time in between services) and may include up to 2 hours of prep during the week. All lesson plans are provided by the Elementary Manager. This role does NOT require weekly lesson planning and may also include hallway safety monitoring, answering parent questions, running check-in, greeting families and floating between classrooms as needed.

• Study the provided lesson plans well in advance. Be prepared to teach upon arrival.
• Teach lessons in ways that are gospel-centered, biblical, and age-appropriate
• Utilize a variety of classroom management strategies in teaching
• Help set and clean up classrooms

• Monitor hallway for safety, answer parent questions, assist security.
• Running check-in, greeting and floating between classrooms.

• Attend two volunteer training sessions per school year (trainings typically happen on a Sunday, after service)
• Participate in morning meetings (before each Sunday service) with volunteers and staff
• Greet and build rapport with parents during pick-up time
• Communicate with the Elementary Manager to help improve class time and lessons

• Adjust teaching based on feedback from manager and the needs of the students

• Passion for Redeemer’s vision and a gospel-oriented heart for New York City
• Aligned with the core theological principles of Redeemer West Side and the Presbyterian Church of America (PCA), including the Westminster Confession
• Ability to articulate and teach the gospel at age appropriate levels
• Experience teaching or babysitting elementary-aged children
• Ability to maintain calm, caring professionalism during crises or unexpected situations
• Able to uphold Redeemer’s safety and other staff policies

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill set; experience and training; licensure, certifications, and ordination; and other organizational needs.
