Job Summary: Chautauqua’s Children’s School is a developmental preschool for youth ages 3 to 5. The program includes a wide range of social, recreational, and educational activities that nurture the development of children. Each week offers a different theme in the Children’s School curriculum, and guests or speakers often share their special talents with the children. The program operates Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to Noon during the summer season.
Compensation$16.50–$19.00 per hour (based on experience and qualifications).
Responsibilities- Create a safe, welcoming environment for participants, staff, and families.
- Encourage a culture of teamwork among Children’s School Assistant Teachers.
- Develop curriculum and activities that are developmentally appropriate and aligned to the program vision.
- Facilitate daily classroom activities.
- Supervise classroom groups for activities outside the typical program spaces (Amphitheater, Bestor Plaza, Library, etc.).
- Manage transition times to and from Children’s School facilities, specifically for participants arriving by bus.
- Assist with maintaining and organizing program facilities.
- Manage group and individual behavior.
- Communicate with families regarding program activities and camper experiences.
- Respond quickly and effectively in emergencies.
Seasonal employment during the summer season (June – August). Primary schedule Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. – Noon, approximately 30 hours per week. Schedule may include evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
The week before operations begin, a mandatory three‑day in‑person staff training session is held.
Additional working hours may be available with Youth & Family Programs; this will be discussed in the interview.
Referral ProgramChautauqua Institution offers a $500 referral bonus (less taxes) for employee referrals that result in a new hire remaining active for at least 30 days during the seasonal period.
Living on GroundsNo employer‑provided housing is available. Applicants should secure independent housing within commuting distance.
