Position Description
The School of Education at Mercy University invites applications for an open rank faculty position in the Department of Early Childhood and Childhood Education. This role is ideal for a scholar‑practitioner who is passionate about preparing educators and leaders for today’s complex educational landscape. The successful candidate will have the vision and leadership skills to help design, implement, and grow a doctoral program that reflects the School’s mission to advance equity, innovation, and excellence in education.
This position includes the potential opportunity to serve as the founding Program Coordinator of a new Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) program, anticipated to launch in the near future pending final approvals. Some evenings and weekends may be required.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in early childhood and childhood education, curriculum and instruction, educational leadership, or related fields
- Advise and mentor students across degree levels, including serving as dissertation chair and committee member for doctoral candidates
- Maintain an active program of scholarship, research, and publication
- Participate actively in school, university, and professional service
- Commitment to equity, access, and culturally responsive education
- Earned doctorate (PhD or EdD) in Early Childhood Education, Childhood Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, or a closely related field
- Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels
- Evidence of scholarly research, publication, and/or professional impact (commensurate with rank)
- Familiarity with doctoral program design, leadership, or coordination in higher education
- Experience in advising and mentoring graduate or doctoral students
- Strong organizational, communication, and collaborative leadership skills
- Commitment to equity, access, and culturally responsive education
- Ability to lead the design, launch, and administration of an Ed.D. program by guiding curriculum and accreditation, collaborating with faculty and partners, supporting students, coordinating operations, and representing the program externally
- Experience with program accreditation (CAEP, Middle States, or similar)
- Evidence of securing external grants or contracts
- A strong record of community engagement and partnerships with schools, districts, or educational organizations
- National or regional visibility in the field of education
