Psychiatry Clerkship Director (Med Clinical Prof - Med Series)

The CUNY School of Medicine (CUNY SOM), located on the campus of The City College of New York (CCNY), is the only medical school in the CUNY system. Its accelerated curriculum enables students to earn both a Bachelor of Science (BS) and Doctor of Medicine (MD) in seven years; the inaugural MD class graduated in 2020. CUNY SOM also offers a two-year Physician Assistant (PA) program.

The school’s mission is to provide medical and PA education to students from historically underrepresented backgrounds, with a commitment to primary care in underserved communities; and to conduct innovative research in community health, health professions education, and biomedical science, translating findings into meaningful clinical impact.

As a community-based medical school, CUNY SOM delivers clinical education through partnerships with affiliated health institutions across the New York metropolitan area. Based at the Harlem campus, the Psychiatry Clerkship Director oversees clerkship implementation by serving as a liaison among students, faculty, and school administration, and collaborates with site directors and affiliate faculty to monitor teaching and assessment across all clinical sites.

The successful candidate will be appointed as a Clinical Professor – Medical Series, a full-time, non-tenure track position, in the Department of Clinical Medicine, reporting to the Department Chair. The Clerkship Director will join a team of mission-driven educators and scholars and will have access to collaborative and mentorship opportunities across departments.

Duties

  • Lead interactive, student-centered educational sessions, typically held one afternoon per week.
  • Direct the simulation-based end-of-clerkship OSCE at the NYSIM Center at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue.
  • Ensure alignment of teaching with national curricular guidelines, as well as CUNY School of Medicine Educational Program Objectives (EPOs), Foundational Competencies (FCs), and clerkship-level learning objectives. Chair Clerkship Grading Committee meetings, oversee the grading process, and provide feedback to clinical site directors on evaluation practices.
  • Conduct periodic site visits to ensure consistency and comparability of student experiences and assessment practices across clinical locations.
  • Supervise and oversee educational objectives for advanced clinical rotations, including fourth-year Psychiatry electives.
  • Serve on institutional committees, such as the Curriculum Committee and Admissions Committee.
  • Mentor students and serve as a faculty advisor to student organizations, including the Psychiatry Special Interest Group (SIG).
  • Contribute to broader medical education by participating in courses such as Practice of Medicine (POM), Organ Systems, Clinical Skills Assessment, and Introduction to Internship (ITI).
Qualifications

Candidates must hold an MD, DO, or MD/PhD degree; be board certified; and hold a current New York State physician’s license. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to building equitable, diverse, and inclusive academic environments and be willing to advance the CUNY SOM’s mission.
