Responsibilities- Provide individualized, developmentally appropriate academic advising to new, continuing, and returning students.
- Assist students in selecting appropriate courses each term based on degree requirements, career goals, transfer plans, placement scores, and academic standing.
- Collaborate with faculty and academic departments to ensure accurate interpretation of college policies, degree pathways, prerequisites, and course sequencing.
- Support students in developing long‑term academic plans that align with their educational, career, and transfer goals.
- Leverage academic advising tools and technologies such as Navigate, Degree Works, and CUNYfirst to meticulously review and maintain accurate tracking of student progress and data.
- Monitor student academic progress, identify potential barriers to success, and initiate proactive outreach when students are off‑track.
- Track progress of students on probation and implement strategies to improve retention and academic performance.
- Assist students in continually monitoring and evaluating their education progress by reviewing academic audits, providing support services referrals and information on college policies.
- Develop, present and assess professional development and training workshops for students, faculty, and staff.
- May be called upon to serve on campus committees as appropriate and manage part‑time and support staff in the absence of the Director or Associate Director of Advising.
- Evening and occasional weekends required.
Bachelor's degree and four years of related experience required.
Other Qualifications- Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline (e.g., higher education, counseling, guidance, social work, or psychology) preferred.
- Experience working with first‑generation, low‑income, and/or historically underserved student populations.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, within the department and with faculty and administrators.
- Strong organization, project management, communication, and facilitation skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records of student activities.
- Computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office 365 and aptitude to learn new systems such as Degree Works, Navigate and People Soft.
$57,262 - $74,490 (salary commensurate with education and experience). CUNY benefits include health plans, retirement/pension benefits, tuition waivers for graduate study, and generous paid time off.
