Senior Academic and Career Pathways Advisor (HEa) - Student Academic Success Hub

The Student Academic Success Hub at The City College of New York supports students who have not yet declared a major, including those preparing for admission into the Grove School of Engineering or the Spitzer School of Architecture, as well as students who are still exploring their academic options. Our mission is to provide holistic guidance, resources, and structured exploration so students can make informed decisions about their academic pathways and confidently move toward a declared major.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and assess programming and training for both staff and students on integrating career advising with academic advising, including guidance on major exploration and alignment with career pathways.
  • Coordinate the design and facilitation of workshops, initiatives, and resources that support students in exploring majors and careers and declaring an academic program by 45 credits.
  • Support the training for newly hired advising staff, ensuring consistent onboarding, coaching, and professional development related to academic and career-integrated advising practices.
  • Collaborate and build strong partnerships with campus divisions and departments to facilitate career-connected learning opportunities, and collaborate with campus partners to ensure students build the skills and experiences necessary for long-term career success.
  • Provide specialized academic advising to a cohort of students, with a focus on holistic support, major decision-making, and connecting academic choices to long-term career goals.
  • Work closely with the Director to establish benchmarks and key performance indicators that measure academic progress, persistence, and major-declaration milestones for assigned cohorts.
  • Advise incoming first-year and transfer students during recruitment cycles, providing guidance on course selection, major exploration, degree planning, and available academic support services.
  • Support the implementation of CUNY Beyond by delivering early, holistic academic and career guidance that helps students identify interests, clarify career goals, and understand the academic pathways required to achieve them.
  • Participate in campus-wide meetings and committees that align with and support the responsibilities of the role.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.

Preferred qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in higher education administration, counseling, student affairs, career development, or a related field may be substituted for one year of required experience.
  • Experience in academic advising, career exploration advising, and student success programming preferred.
  • Experience supporting undeclared, first-year, and transfer student populations preferred.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills required.
  • Experience with CUNYfirst/People Soft, Degree Works, Microsoft Office, and other student success platforms preferred.
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Administers an academic advising center or unit.

  • Collaborates with other academic and administrative offices to maintain a comprehensive academic advisement program
  • Ensures students are provided with consistent, accurate, and prompt advising services, coordinating with academic departments
  • Works with students to resolve academic issues, providing information and/or referral
  • Develops orientation programs to engage and retain students and instructs students, faculty and staff on use of advising technologies
  • Conducts assessments to strengthen advisement programs
  • Organizes and facilitates training for faculty advisors
  • Develops print and online communication materials
  • May supervise office operations and budget
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range: $82,663 - $86,741. Salary commensurate with education and experience.

CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will be adjusted by 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
