We are seeking a dedicated outdoor educator to lead programs at the John Dorr Nature Laboratory, a 320‑acre outdoor education center of the Horace Mann School. The position involves working with students from nursery years through twelfth grade, facilitating adventure and environmental education experiences that enhance the curriculum at every grade level.
Qualifications- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
- Experience teaching environmental or outdoor education.
- Experience facilitating group problem‑solving activities.
- Experience in backpacking and camping.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather and seasons.
- Experience working with youth.
- Ability to work well as part of a crew of teachers.
- Wilderness First Responder certification.
- Experience with rope courses and rock climbing.
- Experience with canoeing and water safety.
- Experience with mountain biking.
Work hours are flexible and vary with program demands; overnight multi‑day hours may be required during expedition‑style programs. On‑campus housing will be provided. Candidates must hold a Connecticut driver’s license with an “A” endorsement.
SalaryAnnual salary range: $59,561 to $62,761, commensurate with experience and education.
