Job Description
Special Education Teacher – ELA – Grades 1-8.
United Staffing a leader in the staffing industry has the privilege of assisting a small, private special education school in hiring a Certified ELA Special Education Teacher. The ideal candidate has experience working with Grades 1-8 in a special education setting and experience developing and preparing curriculum. A team spirit with the ability to collaborate with the support staff will result in a meaningful and successful teaching experience.
This is a 12-month program. Working during July and August is optional.
Salary: $75,000–$90,000 depending on experience.
Excellent benefits package – Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, PTO.
Hours – Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm. Occasional monthly meetings that may require light overtime.
Responsibilities for the ELA Special Education Teacher- Motivate students and teach skills and strategies.
- Complete CPI training provided by school.
- Help students develop social skills.
- Incorporate various modes of learning.
- Responsible for writing the curriculum and various reports.
- Ability to work with a multi-sensory literary program.
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education.
- Valid NYS Special Education Certification.
- Certification in multi-sensory literary instruction (Orton Gillingham highly preferred).
- Minimum of 2 years previously teaching ELA in a special education setting.
- Working knowledge of IEPs.
- Experience working with children that have a variety of disabilities.
- Ability to work with parents, teachers and faculty.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to provide 3 employment references.
