Location: New York

The Brooklyn Center Community School (BCCS) District is seeking applicants to join our Childcare team as a Childcare Lead Teacher. The Childcare Lead Teacher supports the afternoon (PM) Pre‑K Wrap Around Program during the school day and transitions to Centaur Plus After School Care each afternoon. This position also works Centaur Plus non‑school days and summer programming, assisting with supervision and age‑appropriate activities for children.

Work is performed under the direction of the Childcare Programs Supervisor. BCCS is looking for positive, energetic applicants with a deep belief that every student can learn, and having the commitment and passion to provide these learning opportunities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Delivers age‑appropriate curriculum to meet the social, emotional, and intellectual needs of the children of student parents.
  • Performs duties within scope of authority and training, and in compliance with BCCS policies and quality standards: specific duties may vary according to job assignment.
  • Observes, evaluates and reports the children's developmental progress, health and well‑being: assures the classrooms promote learning in a safe environment for the children.
  • Delivers classroom and recreational services: assists with attendance, work assignments, clerical duties, behavior management, and classroom preparation and set up.
  • Assists in creating a nurturing, educational and recreational experience where children are encouraged to develop social skills, independence, and confidence.
  • Supervises, observes and assists with positive interactions between parent and child.
  • Assists in developing and communicating curriculum and schedules of events.
  • Assists students in learning and recreational programs: reinforces positive behavior, provides individual assistance, and encourages socialization and good language communications.
  • Coordinates the work of Assistant Teachers, Aides and volunteers. Performs clerical duties, maintains and organizes files, keeps records and assists with reports.
  • Provides customer service to parents and guardians: assists with parenting skills and developmental issues, answers questions, and explains school rules.
  • Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and staff: acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
  • Enthusiastically promotes the District's goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures. Maintains absolute confidentiality of work related issues, records and information.
  • Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as needed basis.
  • At times may be required to work outside normal business hours and work extended hours to accomplish requirements of the position.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
  • Ability to deliver articulate verbal presentations and written reports.
  • Ability to relate to, establish and maintain effective working relationships with people (staff, students, parents and the general community) of different cultural, ethnic, and socio‑economic backgrounds.
  • Ability to multitask, manage deadlines, set priorities and work independently.
  • Ability to manage, supervise and support staff;
    Skilled in supervision of students and adults, strong communication skills and strong technology skills.
Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent preferred or obtained within 2 years after hired. Previous experience working in a licensed or certified child care facility with diverse populations and urban/suburban school settings preferred.
