Elementary Assistant Teacher

Homestead School is seeking an energetic individual to be part of a teaching team in one of our Elementary classrooms for the  school year. We are 2 hours away from New York City, situated on a 100 acre campus with a stream, pond, field, and forest.

• Engage students in learning activities and encourage participation
• Assist the implementation of lesson plans provided by the lead teacher or decided collaboratively within the teaching team to ensure continuity of learning
• Manage classroom behavior and maintain a safe and respectful learning environment
• Assist with curriculum development by offering ideas for deeper engagement and to meet a range of student needs
• Foster an inclusive atmosphere that respects diverse backgrounds and learning styles
• Collaborate with school staff to ensure the smooth operation of daily activities
• Communicate and collaborate with colleagues and families to address students’ interests and needs

• Prior experience working with students in an educational setting is preferred
• Strong understanding of childhood development principles and classroom dynamics is an asset
• Experience in curriculum development or instructional design is a plus
• Background in tutoring or providing individualized support is beneficial
• Knowledge of (and/or curiosity about) Montessori methods or similar educational philosophies is desirable
