Job OverviewJob‑Readiness Counselors are responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with worksite supervisors, facilitating orientations, workshops, and project-based learning activities. The role focuses on developing young people’s work‑readiness and social skills, ensuring safe work environments, and supporting participants throughout the employment process.
Rate of Pay$20.76 per hour
Work ScheduleFlexible between 8 am and 11 pm.
Work LocationVaries depending on company needs. The main location is 23‑16 30th Avenue, Astoria, NY 11102.
Responsibilities- Conduct enrollment, worksite orientations, participant orientations, and workshop components.
- Act as liaison to worksites.
- Maintain and update all participants’ employment files.
- Collaborate with Employment/Education Specialist, Job Developer, Education/Youth Employment Coordinator, and Program Aide/Assistant to ensure participants attend training.
- Participate in the distribution of debit cards to participants.
- Enable youth to acquire positive work habits and develop employment‑related skills.
- Perform light administrative duties such as making phone calls, emailing, faxing, copying, and preparing packets.
- Troubleshoot issues at worksites and help participants and employers reach mutual resolutions.
- Intervene as needed to remove participants from work sites and coordinate reassignment with the Job Developer and Youth Employment Coordinator.
- Assist with payroll verification as needed.
- Attend staff meetings and professional development training as required.
- Assist with other department duties and projects as needed.
- High School Diploma or GED; AA/AS degree a plus.
- Minimum three years’ experience in Youth Services.
- Minimum three years of supervisory experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word/Excel 2010 and internet usage.
- Excellent verbal, writing, math, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong role model capable of guiding young workers.
- Passion for youth and community development.
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus.
- Fully vaccinated against COVID‑19 at commencement of employment or compliance with enhanced protocols if required.
