Job SummaryThe Program Specialist will lead English Language Arts/Humanities programming for grades 7-12 across Family of Schools 5 and 6, developing strategy, supporting educators, leading professional learning, and fostering inclusive and equitable education.
Responsibilities- Develop and execute comprehensive strategy for advancing ELA and Humanities education across grades 7-12, ensuring alignment with curriculum and graduation requirements.
- Support educators with implementation of ELA and Humanities curricula, promoting literacy, critical thinking, inquiry, and diverse perspectives.
- Design, coordinate, and deliver adult professional learning opportunities focused on evidence-informed literacy strategies, inclusive text selection, and inquiry-based social studies pedagogy.
- Provide individualized and group support to secondary educators, department heads, and administrators, mentoring in high-yield instructional practices, assessment for learning, and inclusive strategies.
- Assist educators in identifying, evaluating, and curating high-quality instructional and assessment resources.
- Collaborate with educational partners, heritage institutions, literacy organizations, and post-secondary stakeholders to foster a cohesive humanities ecosystem and facilitate knowledge sharing.
- Support educators in evaluating and refining instructional practices through data analysis to inform decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Champion equitable and inclusive education, raising awareness of diverse voices and using evidence-informed practices to enhance reading and writing as foundational components.
- Bachelor of Education - Secondary (10 courses in English Language Arts).
- Master of Education with specialization in Literacy, Curriculum, ELA, or Humanities preferred.
- NL Teaching Certificate.
- Extensive background knowledge and leadership experience in teaching English Language Arts and/or Social Sciences at intermediate and senior high levels.
- Strategic vision and implementation skills in secondary literacy and inquiry-based learning.
- Professional learning leadership, including design and delivery of teacher professional development.
- Strong collaboration and community engagement skills.
- Data-driven instructional planning and continuous improvement experience.
- Commitment to equity and inclusive education practices.
- Bachelor of Education - Secondary.
- Master of Education.
- Major in English Language Arts.
- Secondary Teaching Certificate (NL).
Annual Teacher Salary Scale and benefits are contained within the NLTA Provincial Collective Agreement.
Applicants without the required qualifications may be considered in accordance with Clause 37.01(d) of the provincial collective agreement.
