Salary Range: $75,261.00 To $ Annually

Position Summary

The Ethical Culture Fieldston School is seeking a dynamic, creative, and collaborative educator to teach ethics to our 3rd‑5th Grade students and coordinate the divisional Service Learning program for all students. This full‑time 1.0 FTE position for the 2026/27 school year offers a salary range of $75,261 to $184,830 annually and requires an onsite presence.

Responsibilities
  • Teach ethics to 3rd‑5th graders in alignment with the school’s mission.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, sharing resources and communicating about curriculum and student progress.
  • Prepare for and communicate details about student performance and growth with parents and/or guardians during scheduled conferences.
  • Appropriately address student behavioral issues and other classroom challenges to maintain a safe and calm environment.
  • Maintain accurate student record‑keeping, including grades and attendance.
  • Encourage students to support their social and emotional growth.
  • Ensure the confidentiality of student information as required.
  • Attend all departmental, divisional, and school‑wide meetings.
  • Maintain compliance with all school policies, state regulations, and educational standards.
  • Perform other related projects and duties as needed and assigned.
Position Requirements
  • At least 3 years of experience teaching elementary school students.
  • Extensive knowledge of ethics theory and philosophy.
  • A passion for teaching with a pleasant and positive demeanor toward all forms of teaching and learning.
  • The ability to collaborate and build strong relationships with faculty, administrators, students, parents, and the broader community.
  • An understanding and commitment to cultural competency and to supporting students of all backgrounds.
  • Skill in designing instruction that is data‑driven, differentiated, and actively engaging.
  • Previous experience leading morning meetings, such as those outlined by the Responsive Classroom.
  • Prior experience developing social studies curricula with a hands‑on, developmentally appropriate focus.
  • A commitment to progressive education as outlined on our website.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Initiative, creativity, flexibility, and collaboration.
  • A positive attitude with the ability to listen effectively and be receptive to feedback.
  • The ability to manage time effectively, stay organized, and prioritize required tasks.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and proficiency in utilizing and learning new technologies, e.g., Google Workspace tools.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and consistent attendance.
