Consultant (Early Childhood Education) – Open to candidates who are Permanent, eligible for consideration under 55‑a, or who have successfully filed for CONSULTANT (EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION) Exam No. 5059 (March 5 – March 25, 2025) or Exam No. 6124 (June 3 – June 23, 2026).
Responsibilities- Represent Early Intervention as a liaison to childcare centers and their staff for integrating developmental screenings into their procedures and practices.
- Provide in‑person and virtual trainings to childcare programs.
- Offer coaching and technical assistance on early childhood development, developmental screenings, referral to Early Intervention, trauma‑informed conversations with families, and inclusive practices.
- Effectively manage a caseload, maintain correlated files, and establish positive relationships with childcare programs and staff.
- Review, organize, collect, and document data and findings from childcare programs.
- Transport and carry Early Intervention materials to childcare programs and travel to and from multiple childcare centers.
- Collaborate with staff in the NYC Health Department and participating childcare programs.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working with early childhood programs, early care settings, childcare, or children born to age 5, including performing developmental screenings.
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Education, Social Work, Social Services, Human Services, or a related field (highly desirable); or a Master’s degree in a related area (acceptable).
- Dedication and passion for promoting health equity, social justice, and healthy child development.
- Understanding of the importance of developmental screenings and experience using screening tools.
- Strong presentation and training abilities with technology skills.
- Excellent relationship‑building, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, be flexible, and manage multiple relationships simultaneously.
- Willingness to travel within NYC and carry equipment up to 15 pounds.
- Experience collecting, understanding, and organizing data.
- Customer‑service and problem‑solving skills.
- Experience managing volunteer partners.
- Master’s degree in Education, or an equivalent combination of education and three years of full‑time satisfactory experience as a director or consultant in early childhood education.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education with student teaching in early childhood education (pre‑K to 2nd grade) and a Master’s degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling, plus three years of full‑time satisfactory experience as a director or consultant in early childhood education.
- Five years of satisfactory teaching experience as a licensed teacher of early childhood education may substitute for three years of full‑time satisfactory experience.
- One additional year of full‑time satisfactory experience is required for assignment to Assignment Level II.
