Compensation- Certified with a Master's Degree: $72,000
- 90 credits and a Master's Degree in ECE: $61,070
- 90 credits and a Bachelor's Degree: $45,910
This position serves as a Teacher for a Head Start classroom with a direct focus on children 3 to 5 years of age. The teacher works collaboratively with an Assistant Teacher and Family Advocate to ensure the successful operation of a classroom with a total of 15‑20 children.
Responsibilities- Implement a child‑centered curriculum and learning environment that promotes social interaction, active engagement, and self‑motivation to support development in all domains for children of all abilities.
- Address challenging behaviors using a variety of positive behavioral management strategies.
- Use observations and anecdotal notes to document children’ progress and individualize curriculum.
- Create partnerships with families to establish positive interaction patterns in program, school, and home.
- Apply technology and program planning & evaluation skills to support curriculum development and program assessment.
- Engage in professional development, performance management, communication, and leadership activities.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate learning experiences that advance children’ intellectual, physical, and social development, including literacy and numeracy awareness.
- Maintain a safe, healthy learning environment and supervise children at all times in accordance with Head Start and day‑care licensing requirements.
- Provide positive guidance and discipline to support readiness for kindergarten.
- Integrate Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for children with disabilities into daily lessons.
- Support parent engagement in curriculum development, child observation skills, and program planning.
- Schedule and complete two home visits and at least two parent‑teacher conferences per year.
- Collaborate with Family Advocate and participate in case conferences as appropriate.
- Maintain regular parent contact and complete appropriate documentation.
- Manage classroom supplies, inventory, and data collection for ongoing assessment and planning.
- Conduct daily health checks and assess children on an ongoing basis.
- Analyze child outcomes and adjust curriculum in consultation with the Education Coordinator.
- Assign and supervise volunteers, substitutes, and teacher assistants; develop individual development plans for volunteers.
- Participate in staff meetings, conferences, training sessions, and workshops.
- Maintain confidentiality of staff and program information; fulfill mandated reporter obligations.
- Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor to provide consistent, contributory service.
- Must meet the requirements of the New York City Health Code Article 47.13.
- Master's and New York State Certification B‑2.
- Able to lift a child weighing 40 pounds, 20 times a day if needed.
- Basic computer literacy in email, word processing, and internet navigation.
