Position: SY2627  Associate After school Counselor
Location: New York

Compensation: $17.00–$20.00 per hour (based on experience)

Program Dates: August 24, 2026 - June 18, 2027 (subject to change)

Schedule: Mon-Thu 2:30 PM - 6:00 PM;
Fri 12:30 PM - 6:00 PM

Position Summary

LEEP Dual Language Academy Charter School is seeking energetic, reliable, and caring Associate After school Counselor to support our K-5 program. This is a temporary seasonal employee position responsible for assisting with daily operations, student supervision, enrichment activities, and transitions throughout the school day. Associate Counselor plays an essential role in ensuring a safe, joyful, and engaging summer experience for all students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning and implementation of daily program activities, working closely with the Site Coordinator and supporting Associate Counselors in delivering high‑quality enrichment experiences.
  • Prepare and organize the learning environment, ensuring all materials, equipment, and spaces are ready for projects, activities, and group time.
  • Provide leadership and supervision for your assigned group, including taking full responsibility for the classroom when the Site Coordinator or Lead Counselor is not present.
  • Guide and support student learning and engagement, answering questions, facilitating activities, and encouraging curiosity, exploration, and positive participation.
  • Oversee student supervision within your enrichment center, ensuring smooth transitions, consistent routines, and a safe, structured environment.
  • Monitor and ensure child safety at all times, proactively preventing accidents and communicating or documenting incidents according to program procedures.
  • Support the coordination of daily operations, stepping in where needed to maintain efficient and effective program flow.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and strong problem‑solving skills, adapting quickly to changing needs and juggling multiple responsibilities with confidence.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support the overall success of the program and uphold LEEP’s mission and values.
Required Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Successful completion of fingerprinting/background check (fees covered by school)
  • Prior experience working with children in camps, after‑school programs, or youth settings
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to supervise and manage groups of children safely
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work the full program schedule
  • Literacy and fluency in Spanish and English to support students
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience leading youth activities (arts, sports, STEM, games, etc.)
  • Training or coursework in education, child development, recreation, or social work
  • Ability to create a positive, inclusive, and joyful group culture
