GO‑NYC is seeking a dynamic, creative, mission‑aligned urban educator to join our team as a Physical Education & Health Teacher. This role will teach Physical Education to our middle‑schoolers and Health Education to our high‑schoolers. Teachers at GO‑NYC are responsible for preparing each of our students for college and career success through rigorous instruction and maintaining consistently high expectations for conduct.

- Demonstrate solid knowledge and understanding of the content matter.
- Establish, communicate, and demand high expectations for student learning and quality of work.
- Use a multitude of instructional strategies and activities that are academically rigorous and highly engaging.
- Execute detailed lesson plans mapped to a year‑long academic plan to address learning needs.
- Take full responsibility for student failure and constantly work to respond to students’ learning needs.
- Consistently send the message that this work is important, that the student can do it, and that you will not give up on a student.
- Track and analyze student data to identify learning needs and set ambitious, attainable goals for student progress.
- Plan and implement strategies to achieve targets related to student learning outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with the principal and other teachers to develop and revise curriculum based on assessment data.
- Maintain an efficient, respectful, and positive tone in the classroom.
- Utilize time to maximize student learning and communicate a constant, tangible sense of urgency.
- Ensure that all students are on task at all times during a lesson.
- Enforce and emphasize school rules, values, and expectations.
- Build relationships with students that demonstrate an open concern and a sense of responsibility for academic and personal growth.
- Supervise students inside and outside of the classroom, including during transition periods.
- Build a collaborative, respectful advisory classroom community.
- Put in an extraordinary amount of time and effort to contribute to student and school success.
- Assume additional responsibilities when necessary and demonstrate leadership.
- Make frequent phone calls, keeping parents informed of successes and struggles.
- Maintain an orderly school culture.
- Occasionally lead professional development sessions.
- Perform other duties that may be necessary to fulfill the mission of the school.
The successful candidate will have proven success in implementing high‑quality instruction that led to improvement of student achievement in an urban school. They will possess exceptional relationship‑building skills and the ability to communicate clearly to multiple stakeholders. Additional qualifications include:
- A strong academic record with a Bachelor’s degree from a competitive college or university (required); advanced degree in subject area preferred.
- At least two years of experience improving student achievement at an urban school.
- Knowledge of Physical Education and Health Education content.
- State teaching certification (strongly preferred).
- Extremely strong classroom management abilities.
- A strong belief that all students can succeed.
