Location: New York
Association Subject Educator I
Serve as a member of the 4‑H Youth Development team to deliver and assist with implementation and evaluation of 4‑H Youth Development programs. The Educator will promote program objectives with emphasis on Animal Science, Youth Community Outreach, STEM, and Healthy Lifestyles initiatives.
Responsibilities- Program Delivery (70%) – Deliver high‑quality 4‑H Youth Development educational programs and events that address local, regional, and statewide priorities with emphasis on Animal Science, STEM, and Healthy Lifestyles programming initiatives. Assist with facilitation and support of 4‑H short‑ and long‑term clubs. Deliver programs and participate in special projects including 4‑H Leader trainings, County Fair, State Fair, 4‑H Fundraising, Public Presentations, Annual Dinner, Summer Rec Programs, Outdoor Education Field Day, Workshops, Life Skills Program, enrollment campaigns, and other extension Association activities as assigned.
Deliver 4‑H Youth Development programming and Ag and Food Systems programming. Utilize a variety of educational methods including direct teaching, group experiences, media, newsletters, electronic technology, internet, and distance learning. Serve as subject matter resource utilizing existing resources and materials. Foster acceptance of programs, methods, and policies to address community and individual needs and consider diverse audiences. Provide educational program efforts via mass media including contributing articles to 4‑H newsletter, utilizing emails, phone messages, Facebook, and website postings.
Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell, or other land grant universities in a professional manner as part of program delivery. - Program Evaluation (5%) – Implement program evaluation as designed, interpret evaluation data, communicate findings, assist in analyzing and recommending improvements, and participate in multidisciplinary team efforts.
- Administrative Responsibilities
- Direction (5%) – Provide input to program leaders in planning, develop marketing strategies, identify community and fiscal resources, and assist the budget development process.
- Management (5%) – Monitor program financial status, comply with funding requirements, advise on budgetary needs, solve problems, and support volunteer direction and management procedures.
- Coordination/Operation (10%) – Maintain and prepare teaching materials, manage communications, coordinate marketing and publicity of 4‑H Youth Development, maintain website content, oversee volunteer coordination, collect evaluation data, prepare reports, and maintain confidentiality.
- Professional Improvement (5%) – Develop a professional development plan, participate in required orientation and training, pursue personal growth, collaborate with agency staff, and maintain punctuality.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree (Associate’s Degree and two years transferable program/functional experience may substitute).
- Experience relevant to the role.
- Strong communication skills in English.
- Ability to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Ability to meet travel requirements.
- Flexibility to work evenings and/or weekends.
- Teamwork skills and effective communication with coworkers, advisors, community and professional leaders.
- Organize, manage, and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Proficiency with Windows-based software, internet, and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel).
Preferred Qualifications
- Coursework in Education, Agriculture, Natural Resources and/or Human/Youth Development.
- Experience with Cooperative Extension or similar educational organizations.
- Experience guiding volunteers and developing volunteer leadership.
- Strong interpersonal skills with advisory boards, committees, community, and funding partners.
- Experience and ability to relate to youth.
- Team effort participation.
- Ability to identify and utilize program resources from the organization and the community.
