Instructional Support Specialist

Location: Albany High Complex

Job Summary

The Dougherty County School System is seeking highly effective Instructional Specialists to support the continuous improvement of teaching and learning across the district. Instructional Specialists provide leadership in curriculum implementation, instructional best practices, data‑driven decision‑making, technology integration, and professional learning. This role works collaboratively with teachers, school leaders, and district departments to improve student achievement, strengthen instructional capacity, and support the successful implementation of district initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree (T-5) or higher from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Georgia Professional Educator Certificate
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience with evidence of positive student achievement outcomes
  • Demonstrated expertise in standards‑based instruction, instructional coaching, and professional learning facilitation
  • Experience integrating instructional technology to enhance teaching and learning in both traditional and digital learning environments
  • Proficiency with educational technology platforms and tools, including but not limited to
    • Microsoft Office Suite
    • Google Workspace for Education
    • Learning Management Systems (LMS)
    • Student Information Systems (SIS)
    • Assessment and data analysis platforms
    • Interactive presentation and collaboration tools
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate
Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the Georgia Standards of Excellence and current educational best practices
  • Ability to analyze multiple sources of student achievement and instructional data to inform decision‑making
  • Ability to coach, mentor, and support teachers and administrators in implementing effective instructional practices
  • Skilled in designing and delivering engaging, high‑quality professional learning experiences
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to facilitate professional learning communities and lead change initiatives
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and professional growth
  • Strong technology integration and digital learning expertise
Performance Responsibilities Instructional Leadership
  • Model and promote effective, research‑based instructional practices that improve student achievement
  • Support schools in implementing district curriculum, instructional frameworks, and school improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate with teachers and administrators to identify instructional needs and develop targeted support plans
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and feedback to educators to strengthen instructional effectiveness
  • Assist with the implementation of district, state, and federal educational initiatives
Professional Learning
  • Design, facilitate, and evaluate professional learning opportunities aligned to district goals and identified staff needs
  • Develop training materials, resources, and learning modules that support curriculum implementation and instructional excellence
  • Facilitate professional learning communities focused on continuous improvement and student outcomes
  • Support administrators in developing instructional leadership capacity
Curriculum and Assessment Support
  • Collaborate with curriculum teams to develop, revise, and implement instructional resources and materials
  • Assist educators in aligning instruction, assessment, and intervention practices to state standards
  • Analyze student achievement data and assessment results to identify trends, strengths, and areas for improvement
  • Support schools in developing action plans based on data analysis and progress monitoring
  • Promote meaningful and effective integration of technology into teaching and learning
  • Evaluate emerging educational technologies and instructional resources to support district initiatives
  • Collaborate with curriculum, instructional technology, media services, and information technology departments to ensure alignment of instructional resources and digital tools
