Music Teacher - Middle School

About the Role

Earn a $140,000 salary and join a team of master teachers at The Equity Project (TEP) Charter School. TEP is featured in the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and on 60 minutes for its revolutionary teacher salaries and its outstanding results. TEP aims to achieve educational equity for students from traditionally underserved communities by utilizing world‑class teachers and re‑imagining the teaching profession as a place where teachers prioritize their own growth, becoming pedagogical experts, intellectual seekers, and community leaders.

Music instruction is a core part of our program. TEP students learn music every day across all grade levels, with general music in 5th grade—covering singing, basic instrumental instruction, rhythm and notation, and music history—and special tracks (chorus, band, or modern ensembles) in 6th–8th grade. Each student receives formal voice or instrumental instruction during their daily music period and continues to develop music‑literacy skills.

TEP’s gold‑rated program emphasizes performance through regular ensemble concerts for the TEP community.

• Minimum of 3 years of lead teaching experience, at least 2 of which must have been in 4th‑through‑9th grade classrooms

• Master Teachers earn an annual salary of $140,000, with the opportunity to earn an annual bonus
• Approximately 10 weeks of vacation per year (all school vacations)

In adherence with Department of Health guidelines, all charter school staff is required to provide proof of COVID‑19 vaccination.

Applicants must submit an application through The Equity Project Charter School website. The first stage of the process includes four components:
Resume, Cover Letter, Instructional Video, and Submission of Teaching & Learning. All four must be submitted to be considered.

  Write a cover letter that highlights your specific interest in joining the TEP community.
• Instructional Video
  :
  Submit a single, unedited clip (maximum 15 minutes) of teaching in a classroom or small‑group setting. If classroom students are unavailable, you may submit a video of yourself teaching without students, family members, or virtually. Include a written narrative that analyses and reflects upon the teaching and learning in the clip.

  Choose one of the following options and provide the required materials along with a written narrative.
  • Option A:
    Portfolio of Student Work – Demonstrate progress of at least two specific students with a minimum of two work products each (four in total). Include a written narrative explaining the progress.
  • Option B:
    Assessment Data – Provide data for at least one entire class of students, ideally for at least two assessments at different points in time. Include the assessments themselves and a written narrative that explains the assessments, how they measure student performance, and analyzes the results.
  • Option C:
    Original Curricular Tool – Submit any form of a curricular tool you have developed (written materials, instructional methodology, technological innovation, etc.) and a written narrative describing the tool, how it functions, and its impact.
