Middle School Teacher – Content areas (Science)
Position located in School District 10 in the Bronx.
Position DescriptionThe Middle School Science teacher will facilitate students’ development and acquisition of reading comprehension, persuasive and expository writing, creative writing, grammar, and vocabulary skills. Under the supervision of the Head of School, the teacher will develop a deep conceptual understanding of scientific concepts aligned with New York State Next Generation Learning Standards. The teacher will manage a rigorous standards-based curriculum that meets academic goals, supports diverse learning needs—including general education, students with disabilities, and English language learners—and collaborates with school administrators and the community.
PositionDuties and Expectations
- Prepare bi-weekly lesson plans and deliver a rigorously aligned course of study.
- Ensure high levels of student engagement and achievement in accordance with school performance benchmarks.
- Communicate high academic and behavioral expectations to scholars.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to optimized teaching and learning.
- Collect, analyze, and report student performance data.
- Participate in professional development activities, reflective practice, and implement strategies to improve teaching and learning.
- Maintain a professional appearance and deportment.
- Complete all classroom and school assignments and responsibilities in a timely and effective manner.
- Work autonomously and creatively within established school guidelines and policies.
- Use evaluative feedback as a tool for growth and development.
- Build collaborative relationships with colleagues, share teaching insights, and coordinate student learning.
- Demonstrate proficiency with office and educational software including Zoom, word processing, spreadsheet, database, and email.
- Adhere to the highest ethical standards and demonstrate teamwork.
- Show dependability, integrity, and a strong commitment to the charter school’s vision.
- Participate in teacher team meetings, department and data inquiry meetings, coaching, and professional development sessions.
- Master’s Degree or current enrollment in a master’s program with pending certification.
- NYS Certification preferred (Grades 1–6 or 7–12).
- 1–3 years of teaching experience preferred.
- Ability to work in a high‑paced charter school that requires accountability, initiative, and social‑emotional intelligence.
Salary commensurate with experience and certification, ranging from $65,000 to $80,000. Benefits include health, dental, vision, and a 401(k) plan. Faculty receive six weeks of paid summer vacation and ten school days off during the winter break. Teachers are part of a founding team establishing a new state‑of‑the‑art facility.
